Principals + Stephen A. Bates, AIA, NCARB
Since graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1983, Mr. Bates has served in all phases and at levels of responsibility in architectural practice, successfully serving the facilities planning and design needs for large institutional clients who own and occupy their own facilities. Mr. Bates initially joined MCA in 1986, and since 2000 has served as Principal and Director of Academic Projects. He has managed many multi-year, multi-project relationships with the clients he has served, successfully demonstrating MCA's mission to provide consistently superior design and service. He was elected to the position of President by the Board of Directors in 2013. As President, Mr. Bates' is focused on quality control, long-range planning, and ensuring that our clients, through our design teams, are provided with all the necessary resources required for a successful project outcome. Mr. Bates continues to guide our academic studio and is our senior academic planner. He has authored and edited statewide standards for educational technology and facilities design, and has participated in speaking engagements for numerous professional organizations. He is professionally registered in multiple States and is NCARB Certified. Mr. Bates has served in multiple civic leadership roles, including serving as past-President of the Construction Industry Educational Foundation and has served on the Superintendent's Advisory Council for the Southern York County (PA) School District since 2002.
